What makes people happy? It turns out that a lot goes into it and can be quite complicated.
People experience emotions on various levels and is different for everyone. Each person’s general level of happiness is determined by genes and personality traits. It is life circumstances and daily activities that make up the rest.
The World Happiness Report recently came out with their survey and ranking of 155 countries in the world by their level of happiness. This report takes into account six indicators toward happiness: 1) generosity, 2) freedom, 3) health, 4) trustworthy governance, 5) income, and 6) social support. It seems that people to countries that are thriving economically and socially tend to be happier but not by much.
The happiest places in the world according to the report are:
- Norway
- Denmark
- Iceland
- Switzerland
- Finland
- The Netherlands
- Canada
- New Zealand
- Australia
- Sweden
The US did not crack the top 10. It was ranked 14 following Israel, Costa Rica, and Austria.
So, what are some habits you can establish and do daily to be happy? Meditation and journaling done daily will help to clear the mindset and see blessings behind each setback or trial in business or personal life. Fifteen minutes of meditation and five minutes or more journaling can set the stage for sustainable happiness over time. Smile often even when you do not feel like it. This process over time seems to affect positive change in your mood.
To your health & prosperity,
